I needed an afternoon to myself. So, I stopped what I was doing Friday, grabbed a coffee at my favorite café, then I wandered into Monograph Bookwerks – a beautifully curated shop in the northeast ‘hood of Portland. And, I picked up this book…

During the 1970s, Dieter Roth published a series of ads in a Swiss newspaper. The content of this series – disturbing, poetic and aggressive. This is the first complete publication of Roth’s ads, previously only published as artist’s books.

“Reading Willy Vlautin is like jumping into a clear, cold lake in the middle of summer. His prose is beautifully spare and clean, but underneath the surface lies an incredible depth, with all kinds of hidden stories and emotions resting in the shadows.”   – Hannah Tinti

Willy Vlautin, writer and musician, is reading at Powell’s tonight from Lean on Pete. It’s absolutely perfect for this rainy Portland day.

And, Jon Raymond is at Nationale tomorrow who wrote Livability and The Half Life. I loved both of ‘em.
